Earwig

Earwig is a monitoring and assessment cloud-based tool which we use to record a child or young person’s progress in relation to their EHCP and IEP targets, their learning and their social and emotional development.

This cloud-based software which has been personalised by Educate U allows all school-based professionals who work with pupils to capture the learning achievements through observation and assign these to the individual pupil’s targets. These targets are either important soft skills targets, academic targets, subject related targets and targets linked directly to the EHCP outcomes set each year.

What does it record?

The quantity of evidence that a class has will vary, but the majority of classes make several daily records for each child linked to the sessions of learning or key areas of improvement that the child or young person demonstrates. The range of evidence that can be used to record a pupils’ individual targets can come in many forms, including but not limited to:

Videos: showing evidence of learning and achievement from the child or young person
Short annotations: Usually from the adult working with the pupil on how the pupil achieved their target
Photos: showing a skill, knowledge or understanding being used (which was achieved in the session) or work completed by the pupil
Observations from visiting professionals: e.g. Speech and Language Specialists
Observations or progress reports: Usually from intervention assistants: e.g. Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, Youth Workers or OT Assistant
Senior leaders can add evidence that may be captured during learning walks or interactions with children.

Why does Educate U use Earwig?

Educate U uses Earwig to help validate pupil assessment and evidence against EHCP, IEP and Curriculum targets.

Records take moments to create and are shared automatically with the relevant staff and family members. Timelines for learners, classes, subjects and many other criteria, can be generated and displayed instantly to any stakeholders that need them which is fantastic for IEP reviews and EHCP annual reviews.

What will I see as a parent or carer?

Each parent or Carer gets a secure login and a wonderful, free, ever-growing record of their child’s school life. After-school conversations become much more interesting and productive. Parents are delighted to be so informed and are consequently more supportive of the school in other ways. Parents and teachers can communicate around individual records

Earwig is NOT social media. Parents can only see their child’s records. Parents need a login approved by the school in order to access the system.

Can I upload evidence?

Yes! Parents can add their own observations to enhance the value of their child’s education record.

Is my child’s Earwig account secure?

Each school Earwig account is a separate secure environment. Data is encrypted and each parent or carer login must be approved by Educate U. Even then, each parent or carer can only see images which relate directly to their child.
